Kiss Me, Kate
It's so fun to "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" at SummerFest, with Cole Porter's fiery romantic musical, Kiss Me, Kate! The show within the show is a musical version of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. A "first couple of the theatre" are playing the lead roles, so the off-stage conflict between Fred Graham, the show's director, producer, and star, and his leading lady, his ex-wife Lilli Vanessi make for hot summer fireworks. Add in gamblers and gangsters and great songs ("Wunderbar", "So in Love", "Brush Up Your Shakespeare"), and you have a show which the New York Times praised as "a remarkable melodious score with an occasional suggestion of Puccini, who was a good composer, too." The Opera Theater SummerFest company pulls out the all the stops for four performances through July 23 in our intimate 400-seat venue! Food, pre-show entertainment. AAA, Group, student discounts available.

Carmen the Gypsy
An alluring gypsy, a handsome officer - two different worlds collide in Bizet’s timeless tale of fierce love with some of opera’s favorite music. Reenvisioned by Jonathan Eaton and Robert Frankenberry to take place in in a gypsy tavern and retold through the thrilling sounds of flamenco guitar, this beautiful orchestration has been reduced to provide a new look into a classic production. Light fare and beverages will be available and a ticketed party including a cabaret with the cast will follow the performance. For more information visit www.otsummerfest.org.
