Sounds Upstairs: Daniel Goode: "Interpolations"
New York composer and clarinetist Daniel Goode creates solo, ensemble, and intermedia pieces heard by audiences worldwide. "Interpolations" will include a new series of very short operas for solo voice performed by the composer, three early songs from The Tempest, plus the premiere of "Marx Bro.," sung by the composer with David Mahler, keyboard.

FUSE@PSO: Beethoven + Coldplay
A mash-up of Beethoven's famous "Eroica" Symphony with songs from the Coldplay catalog, from A Rush of Blood to the Head to Mylo Xyloto. FUSE@PSO Creative Director and conductor Steve Hackman expertly combines the two, culminating in a rousing rendition of Beethoven's Finale: Allegro molto carrying the Coldplay anthem Viva la Vida. Happy Hour at 5 pm, concert at 6:30.

Richard Stern, harpsichord
Richard Stern plays works by Bach, Scarlatti, D'Anglebert, Forqueray, and Sweelinck. Richard Stern is a Lecturer in Music and Technology in the CMU School of Music. He studied harpsichord with Martin Pearlman in Boston and with Gustav Leonhardt in Amsterdam. He also studied music theory at MIT.

Music 101: Adam Liu, "When East Meets West"
Chinese-born PSO cellist Adam Liu has been a featured soloist with the major orchestras of Montreal, Victoria, Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, San Antonio, Baltimore, Los Angeles and Pittsburgh. He'll share his experiences in a lunchtime lecture and performance.

Villegas Plays Rodrigo
Guitarist Pablo Villegas returns, alongside the debut of fellow Spaniard, conductor Gustavo Gimeno. Villegas performs Rodrigo's Fantasia Para un Gentilhombre, a piece rich in haunting melodies and Spanish folk dances. Gimeno conducts music from two ballets -- Stravinsky's Jeu de cartes and Ravel's Daphnis and Chloe. The program begins with Academy Award-nominated music from "There Will Be Blood," written by Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood.

Verdi's Nabucco
Mark Delavan (Falstaff, Rigoletto, and Scarpia) returns as Nabucco in this epic story of the Jews in exile in Babylon. Impressive and affecting projections accompany this big, traditional production containing that most beloved of choruses, "Va, pensiero." Antony Walker conducts. Bernard Uzan provides stage direction for the poignant family story of betrayal and reconciliation at the heart of the opera.

Duruflé Requiem
The Mendelssohn Choir's 2015-2016 season opens with Maurice Durufle's soulful Requiem, conducted by Music Director Betsy Burleigh. Durufle completed the Requiem in 1947, and dedicated the piece to the memory of his father. Don't miss Betsy Burleigh's farewell performance of one of the most spellbinding and transcendent choral works of the 20th century.
