Mozart Festival Opens
Presenter: Pittsburgh Symphony
Principal Horn William Caballero premieres Robert Levin's new edition of Mozart's Horn Concerto #1 and Orchestra. Manfred Honeck conducts Mozart's popular Symphony #41 "Jupiter", nicknamed for the Olympian magnitude of its finale. And, Robert Levin improvises his own cadenza in Mozart's Piano Concerto # 20 in D minor.

Brad Mehldau Trio
Presenter: Manchester Craftsmen's Guild
Jazz pianist Brad Mehldau has recorded and performed extensively since the early 1990s. Mehldau's most consistent output over the years has taken place in the trio format. Larry Grenadier (most recently at MCG Jazz with Pat Metheny) and Jeff Ballard round out the trio.

Silk Screen Asian-American Film Festival
Presenter: Silk Screen Asian Arts
The Festival begins with an opening night gala, and features 47 screenings in 4 locations including the local premiere of "Omar," the 2014 Oscar-nominated film directed by Hany Abu-Assad. Omar, a young and bold baker who lives in occupied Palestine, is accustomed to dodging surveillance bullets to cross the separation wall to visit his forbidden love interest Nadia. Sadly, occupied Palestine knows neithersimple love nor clear-cut war.

Philip Glass in Conversation

The myth of Orpheus and Eurydice gets a "lyrical, even seductive" (Washington Times) makeover from Philip Glass, via French visionary Jean Cocteau: the poet Orphee becomes involved with a mysterious Princess. Love eventually triumphs...but not without a price. Matthew Worth is Orphee, Caroline Worra is Euridice. Antony Walker conducts.
