Highmark Holiday Special with Chris Botti Known for his beautiful interpretation of Ave Maria, jazz trumpeter Chris Botti has been able to meld jazz, classical and pop into a sophisticated contemporary genre. A Lyrical Christmas Carol Dickens' magical tale of Scrooge, Ghosts, Tiny Tim and the Cratchit family returns by popular demand. This heartwarming production was created in 1991 by Ken and Jane Gargaro. Seasonal carols and the music of Bach, Mozart, and Vaughn Williams provide a tuneful framework for this production which Post-Gazette theater critic Chris Rawson has deemed "child-friendly and fun." 12/17/2009

Gloria! Handel's stunning Gloria showcases soprano Sherezade Pantahki in her Pittsburgh debut. This celebration of Christmas traditions includes joyful instrumental works by Giuseppe Tartini and Marin Marais. Guests include Erika Cutler, violin; and Andrew Appel, harpsichord. Duke Ellington's Beggar's Holiday A Jazz Collaboration with the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh. A landmark revival of Duke Ellington’s retelling of the Beggar’s Opera features musical arrangements by Pittsburgh’s own Billy Strayhorn and text by Dale Wasserman and John Latouche. Broadway’s first racially-integrated musical, set in America, tells the story of the lovable rogue MacHeath who escapes the gallows and carries off his true love, Polly Peachum. 12/18/2009
