Southern Light: American Impressionist Women
"Southern Light: American Impressionist Women" from the Huntsville Museum of Art and its recently-acquired Sellars Collection features 50 paintings and two bronze sculptures by American women artists. Many works are influenced by French Impressionism. In an era when women were discouraged from taking on “masculine” subjects, the Impressionist repertoire of pastoral landscapes, floral still lifes, and domestic interiors made a pleasing counterpoint to the gritty subjects of urban realists and industrial scene painters.

Community Partners Concert
The Pittsburgh Symphony will feature cellist Gabriel Cabezas, winner of the senior division of the 2012 Sphinx Competition. The Sphinx Organization encourages the participation of Blacks and Latinos in classical music. The R&B Group En Vogue will perform with the PSO in the second half of the concert, led by PSO Resident Conductor Lawrence Loh.

The Carnegie Brass is a Pittsburgh-area chamber group of rare musicianship. They have performed throughout the northeastern United States, and have toured the South Pacific and Australia with the River City Brass Band. Free admission.

Summer Sparklers
Artistic Director Daniel Meyer conducts a free outdoor concert of classics and popular music featuring Tchaikovsky's famous 1812 Overture. Composers include Mozart, Berlioz and Elgar, and there will be medleys from The Music Man, Star Wars, and Disney film scores, as well as patriotic favorites.

Independence Day Concert
Istvan Jaray leads the full orchestra in patriotic and well-loved musical selections. There will be a salute to military veterans, a Marine Corps honor guard, and for Tchaikovksy's 1812 Overture, a PA National Guard howitzer unit. Johnstown-area student singers will perform, and the JS Youth Orchestra Brass Ensemble will play big band favorites. Free admission.

Relative Positions
Shana Simmons Dance presents over 20 artists - choreographers, musicians, writers/poets, installation artists, and visual artists – all commissioned to create 5-20 minute pieces which will continue on a loop through the evening. Semi-guided tours will lead the audience to experience the space and the artists in a comfortable explorative way. Audiences may stay to view a piece multiple times, or move through the venue at their own pace.
