Budapest on the Bluff: Fife and Drums

The witty musings of Antal Doráti, one of the great conductors of the 20th century lead to the masterpiece of Bartók's Sonata, a work of overwhelming genius seldom heard in concert because of its great difficulty.

The program will include Josef Rheinberger's Six Religious Songs, Op.157, Max Reger's Op.105 for Organ and Voice, and J. S. Bach's Cantata #57 "Selig ist der Mann," which will feature singers from the Covenant Church of Pittsburgh.

When Aunt Ester opens her home to the troubled Citizen Bartow, a recent migrant from the rural South, a battle ensues not only within Citizen, who begs Aunt Ester to "wash his soul," but also between Citizen & Caesar Wilkes, a stern man of the law, threatened by Citizen's independence and defiance of his authority..
