Westminster Christmas Concert
Annual Christmas concert with Upper St. Clair Chanticleers, church choirs and Christmas carols.
Warm By The Fire
The choirs, directed by Dr. Jeffry Blake Johnson and joined by the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra and the youth ensemble Dreams of Hope, share familiar holiday songs and some new works, including a commission from composer Jake Hegge (composer of the opera, Dead Man Walking) and lyricist Mark Campbell (lyricist for the opera, Silent Night, winner of the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Music), Six Christmas Traditions.
One Singing World
Enjoy music from around the world, featuring classical, folk and traditional selections in many languages from around the world…sung by Pittsburgh's most renowned youth chorus.
Mark Anderson directs Handel's Messiah, sung by the Shadyside Chancel Choir accompanied by period instruments of the Baroque played by Chatham Baroque and Rick Murrell, trumpet. Soloists include Kelly Ann Bixby, soprano; Joseph Gaines, tenor; and Dimitri Lazich, baritone. A reception and crèche display will follow.
Sharon Creech is a Newbery-Award winning author for her book, Walk Two Moons. Her newest book, The Great Unexpected, is set in Ireland and tells the enchanted tale of two orphans, Naomi and Lizzie. Naomi is a romantic. Lizzie is a singer. But when a mysterious boy named Finn falls out of a tree, he changes everything. (Ages 8 and up).
The Grammy-Award winning Pacifica Quartet was Musical America's 2009 Ensemble of the Year and won the 1998 Naumburg Prize. The ensemble is the quartet-in-residence at NYC's Metropolitan Museum of Art. Beethoven: Quartet in F major, Op. 135; Janáček: Quartet #2, "Intimate Letters"; Smetana: Quartet #1 "From my Life."

Tchaikovsky's Winter Dreams
Violinist Gil Shaham returns in Mozart’s Fifth ("Turkish") Violin Concerto with sweet melodies and a hint of military-Turkish music. Pulitzer Prize-winning composer George Walker was co-commissioned by the PSO and three other orchestras to write "Strands." And guest conductor Arild Remmereit leads Tchaikovsky's Symphony #1 Winter Dreams” is one of his earliest and masterful works.
Holiday Concert with Joe Negri
The Orchestra of the Alleghenies (formerly McKeesport Symphony), gives its annual holiday concert with legendary guitarist Joe Negri (Mister Rogers Neighborhood). Bethel Park High School (Dec 14 @ 7:30pm) & McKeesport High School (Dec 16 @ 2:00pm).
Tenor Joseph Gaines has recently turned heads in performances with Pittsburgh Opera, Houston's Ars Lyrica, and Apollo's Fire. Now he joins Chatham Baroque for a celebration of seasonal vocal music from the Old and New Worlds, featuring music of Bach, Handel, Corelli, as well as some of America's earliest Hymns and Carols.
Navidad Caribe - Coro Latinoamericano
Coro Latinoamericano's Christmas concert, Navidad Caribe," is a joyous and rhythmic celebration of songs from all over the Caribbean. Free admission, donations suggested. Info: 412 345-1047.
The Pittsburgh School for the Choral Arts & Oakland Girls Choirs invite you on a musical journey from darkness to light featuring Benjamin Britten's A Ceremony of Carols, the Pittsburgh premiere of Frank LaRocca's Magnificat, carols from around the world, and carols arranged by David Willcocks, John Rutter, et. al.

Imagine four acclaimed singer-songwriters, Grammy nods among them, criss-crossing the USA throughout December, trading original holiday songs in a Bluebird Café-styled "writers-in-the-round" tour before intimate rapt audiences. That was the brainchild when Amy Speace conceived of Decembersongs in 2010 with her colleagues Jon Vezner, Dan Navarro and Sally Barris.
Festival of Lessons and Carols
Short seasonal scripture readings are followed by choral or handbell arrangements of traditional carols telling the story from the fall of Adam to the birth of the Christ child. Info: 412 835-4415.
You're invited to sing five choruses with the Calvary Renewal Choir and Festival Orchestra conducted by David Bridge. Soloists include QED's Anna Singer, and Paula Signorino-Richter, Christopher Quigley, and Daniel Teadt.
St. Brendan's Episcopal Church in Franklin Park presents its 5th annual Messiah Sing Along conducted by Woody Brown. Free admission. Bring your own score, or purchase at the door.

Carl Iezzi conducts Christmas on Broadway, arranged by John Higgins; Christmas Joy, by Sammy Nestico; Miracle on 34th Street, by Bruce Broughton; and Christmas Festival, by Leroy Anderson. Plus, Neil Stahurski directs the choir from the Church of the Assumption in Bellevue.
Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols
In the English tradition, a sequence of choral Christmas music and short scripture readings followed by High Tea in Brooks Hall.
