Warm By The Fire The choirs, directed by Dr. Jeffry Blake Johnson and joined by the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra and the youth ensemble Dreams of Hope, share familiar holiday songs and some new works, including a commission from composer Jake Hegge (composer of the opera, Dead Man Walking) and lyricist Mark Campbell (lyricist for the opera, Silent Night, winner of the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Music), Six Christmas Traditions. 12/09/2012

Handel's Messiah Mark Anderson directs Handel's Messiah, sung by the Shadyside Chancel Choir accompanied by period instruments of the Baroque played by Chatham Baroque and Rick Murrell, trumpet. Soloists include Kelly Ann Bixby, soprano; Joseph Gaines, tenor; and Dimitri Lazich, baritone. A reception and crèche display will follow. 12/09/2012

Pacifica Quartet The Grammy-Award winning Pacifica Quartet was Musical America's 2009 Ensemble of the Year and won the 1998 Naumburg Prize. The ensemble is the quartet-in-residence at NYC's Metropolitan Museum of Art. Tchaikovsky's Winter Dreams Violinist Gil Shaham returns in Mozart’s Fifth ("Turkish") Violin Concerto with sweet melodies and a hint of military-Turkish music. Pulitzer Prize-winning composer George Walker was co-commissioned by the PSO and three other orchestras to write "Strands." And guest conductor Arild Remmereit leads Tchaikovsky's Symphony #1 Winter Dreams” is one of his earliest and masterful works. 12/14/2012

Decembersongs Imagine four acclaimed singer-songwriters, Grammy nods among them, criss-crossing the USA throughout December, trading original holiday songs in a Bluebird Café-styled "writers-in-the-round" tour before intimate rapt audiences.
