Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival The 54th annual Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival connects the community to the arts through high-quality and diverse visual and performing art attractions including more than 100 events and activities featuring more than 500 artists in over 20 venues. Zachary Good, clarinet Pittsburgh native Zachary Good earned his Bachelor of Music degree at the Oberlin Conservatory. He began clarinet lessons with Eric Nelson, performed in many ensembles while at Oberlin, and will play this summer with the Aspen Music Festival's Contemporary Music Ensemble. Next year, he will study for a master's degree with former Chicago Symphony principal clarinetist Larry Combs. 06/08/2013
Trillium Ensemble presents Silent Spring Silent Spring features new works and the completion of John Adams' Gnarly Buttons. Trillium Ensemble commissioned Mark Fromm's Silent Spring, inspired by Rachel Carson, which uses a singing pianist, extended flute techniques, and bass clarinet. A world premiere piano solo, Matthew Heap's On The Ceiling Of The Sky, presents a full-range rhythmic thunderstorm. Mathew Rosenblum’s Under the Rainbow, for flute and pre-recorded CD, journeys through techno, karaoke, lounge, and cartoon soundtrack genres, with samples from MGM's Wizard of Oz. 06/08/2013
Playground Project Part of the upcoming 2013 Carnegie International, The Playground Project is a richly-illustrated exhibition exploring postwar playground designs from 1940 to 1980. Examples from Europe, the US, and Japan are seen in more than 130 photographs, prints, plans, models, books, films, and slideshows. 06/10/2013
Matt Murchison Mutiny Music without boundaries and entertainment without pandering. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers Milly didn't know life with Adam would include six rowdy brothers-in-law as roommates. Now, her plans to marry them off may backfire when the rambunctious bachelors kidnap rather than court their brides-to-be. The Sounds of Growth The Reed II Trio's first Pittsburgh tour promises a night of music that will be enjoyable for the whole family. Admission is free, but donations will further REED III's musical performances and repertoire.
