BeethovenFest: The Immortal
Some say that Beethoven had difficulty writing melodies, yet his Violin Concerto abounds with beautiful tunes, each as serene and good-humored as the next. Violinist Christian Tetzlaff solos with Manfred Honeck conducting. Beethoven once again redefined the symphonic form through the inclusion of a chorus in his monumental Symphony No. 9, ending with the Ode to Joy, the deaf composer's celebration of life and universal brotherhood. The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and a quartet of vocal soloists join the PSO.
