Tosca
Puccini's melodrama Tosca was inspired by Sarah Bernhardt's portrayal in Sardou's play La Tosca. This potent tale of an opera diva who defies the most powerful and corrupt man in Rome, in life and in death, has resonated with audiences since 1900. Angela Brown and Hugo Vera as Tosca and her lover Cavaradossi make their Pittsburgh debuts, with Mark Delavan (Falstaff, 2009) returning as Tosca's nemesis Scarpia. Antony Walker conducts.

Mozart and Copland: Choral Masters
Betsy Burleigh directs the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh in Mozart's unfinished "Great" Mass in C Minor, and Copland's "In the Beginning." Legendary mezzo-soprano Mildred Miller Posvar, founder of Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, will give a free pre-concert talk at 2:00 pm.

Haydn and Monteverdi were legends in their own time and visionaries of music yet to be. Eric Whitacre and John Tavener are contemporary composers using new techniques to stretch the art of choral music with their visions and well on the way to becoming legends. Guest Music Director Larry Allen will lead Haydn's Missa Brevis Sancti Johannes de Deo, Monteverdi's Beatis Vir, Whitacre's Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine, and Tavener's Village Wedding.

To close, Principal Guest Conductor Leonard Slatkin presents his own signature orchestral suite from Sergei Prokofiev's romantic ballet Cinderella.
