2006 Honorees

Ken BeerKen Beer
As president of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, Ken Beer's strong leadership skills and abilities to forge partnerships helped make the A.A.P. a unified and financially solvent organization able to fulfill its role in supporting artists in the Pittsburgh region. Ken's foresight has significantly strengthened A.A.P's outreach efforts and ability to connect with members of the community. For his willingness, hard work and dedication we honor Ken with a 2006 Dominion VITA Award.

Ruth Willis
As one of the founding members of the Open Stage Theatre, Ruth Willis' artistic direction has guided the organization over the past 14 years, enabling Open Stage Theatre to celebrate the wonder and magic of theatre through high quality productions. Serving as the company's artistic director Ms. Willis single-handedly guided the company's development through careful play and artist selection, ensuring that each production is more successful than the last. For her steadfast determination we honor Ruth with a 2006 Dominion VITA Award.

Maggie SetlerMaggie Setler
In her new role as Executive Director at Sweetwater Center for the Arts, Maggie Setler makes sure financial support remains strong so that Sweetwater can continue stimulating community interest for the arts of all cultures, through quality education and experiences.
Maggie has had a tremendous effect on the amount of donations that have been given to the organization for scholarships, allowing children that would not ordinarly have had the opportunity, to experience the arts in a camp environment. For reaching out to the community and beyond we honor Maggie with a 2006 Dominion VITA Award.

Birdie NicholsBirdie Nichols
For the past 26 years, Birdie Nichols has guided the Glorious Rebirth Performing Troupe and its scholarship efforts, so that through song, dance and drama the organization's uplifting message of joy and hope can be shared by all in the community. Ms. Nichols encourages members of the group to expand and develop their talents to a greater level by encompassing all areas of the performing arts. Even as the group grows older, members who are limited by health problems are still embraced and encouraged to perform. For her encouraging spirit we honor Birdie Nichols with a 2006 Dominion VITA Award.

Wayne BergWayne Berg
When not tending to his treasurer duties for the Old Schoolhouse Players, one can find Wayne Berg on a ladder making sure the theater's lighting and sound are up to par, insuring the residents of Hickory, Washington County, quality, theatrical productions. Wayne has selflessly committed to many aspects of the organization, often sharing his expertise. Whether it be planning to make major renovations to the theater or serving as the contact person for an Eagle Scout project, donating his time and expert knowledge on the use of tools, safety equipment and construction techniques. For his dedication and mentorship we honor Wayne Berg with a 2006 Dominion VITA Award.

Margaret StockMargaret Stock
With outstanding organizational skills, Margaret Stock helped Butler Arts Council generate revenue with her "Ring In the Arts" New Year's event so the organization can continue to build on the quality of life, through the arts, in Butler County. Not only did the event raise thousands of dollars to benefit the Arts Council Mission, local merchants benefited due to the influx of people who put much needed dollars into the community of downtown Butler. In addition to being a dedicated volunteer, Margaret also serves as Mayor for the City of Butler. For her service to the community we honor Margaret Stock with a 2006 Dominion VITA Award.

The Dominion VITA Award program is a joint community partnership between Dominion and WQED Multimedia. It is funded by an annual grant from Dominion. Dominion is one of the nation's largest fully integrated electric and natural gas holding companies. Dominion VITA is coordinated by WQED Multimedia, the nation's first public broadcasting station. Today, WQED Multimedia is a leading regional, public multimedia enterprise, creating and distributing educational, cultural and informational content and services to the Western Pennsylvania community.
