Write On!

Parents and Teachers

The PBS KIDS Writers Contest is a wonderful way to engage learners in the creative process. By encouraging young authors to thoughtfully express their ideas, and to translate those ideas into compelling narrative, dialogue, and imagery, we strive to inspire the next generation of thinkers and creators!

We know you want to support your child's entry in this year's Writers Contest. That's why we're offering several great resources to inspire creativity, hone writing skills, and improve illustration techniques:

Download our printable resources on the right of this page for terrific tips on writing a great story.

Pittsburgh author and story teller Sydell Pearl explains the writing process to children at the Squirrel Hill Carnegie Library. "Where does a story idea come from?" she asks. Then children pose ideas for their Writers Contest stories about animals, children, events, fantasy and their real experiences.

WQED, PBS39, WITF, and West Virginia Public Broadcasting are proud to participate in the 2014 national PBS KIDS Writers Contest.
