Violinist Ellen Chen-Livingston joined the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra first violin section at the beginning of the 1998-99 season. Prior to her engagement with the PSO, she had been a member of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
While a student at Juilliard, Ms. Chen-Livingston served as concertmaster of the New York String Seminar Orchestra under Jaime Laredo. She has also participated in the Aspen, Tanglewood and Breckenridge Music Festivals. Ellen received both Bachelor and Master degrees from Juilliard and has studied with Cho-Liang Lin, members of the Juilliard Quartet, and Felix Galimir. She has appeared as soloist with the National Repertory Orchestra and with the PSO on Community Engagement and Chamber Orchestra concerts.
Devoted to teaching young students, Ellen maintains a private studio in her home in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh.
