HOME OF THE YEAR CONTEST: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When are entries due for the 2010 Home of the Year Contest?
Entries must be submitted or postmarked by December 15, 2009. Entries may be dropped off at 4802 Fifth Avenue in Oakland and must be labeled Attention: Pittsburgh Magazine, Home of the Year Contest.

How do I obtain an entry packet?
Packets will be mailed upon request and are available for download on our Web site, pittsburghmagazine.com or call 412/622-1534 to request a packet via mail.

If I’m entering my project in more than one category, can I just submit one binder?
No, each category is judged separately, so you need one binder for each category you enter. If you have two projects in the same category, each also needs a separate binder.

Can I include more than five photos of my project?
Yes, just please include NO MORE THAN 10 photos in the binder. Please submit large, clear, high-quality color prints. More images can be included on the CD if you wish. We require a CD because we need digital photo files to publish images of the winners in our magazine.

All I have to submit are the photos I took on my digital camera. Are these good enough?
No. WE ONLY ACCEPT PROFESSIONAL QUALITY PHOTOS.
If the photos are too small, dark or blurry, the judges will be unable to judge your project.

Why are floor/site plans are required?
The judges want to study the layout of a project, to see how the rooms connect and if the overall design works and makes sense. For remodels they want to see the before and after design, to evaluate the changes.
