PITTSBURGH—Thanks to the support of Bayer Corporation, the Pittsburgh Symphony Radio 2011-2012 series is available for classical public radio stations to air 52 weeks a year.

With Music Director Manfred Honeck leading the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, listeners will be hear favorites like Beethoven’s 5th Symphony; Finlandia by Jean Sibelius; Copland’s Appalachian Spring; and Strauss Waltzes. Listeners will also enjoy favorite performers like Itzhak Perlman, Garrick Ohlsson, Helene Grimaud, and Emanuel Ax. Special programs will also be featured for the Holiday Season (Handel’s Messiah and Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite), as well as for Mozart’s birthday.

Pittsburgh Symphony Radio consists of 26, two-hour programs hosted by WQED-FM 89.3’s Jim Cunningham LIVE from Heinz Hall. Cunningham is in his 24th year as executive producer and host of Pittsburgh Symphony Radio now celebrating its 30th Anniversary. WQED has had a long-term on-air relationship with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in regular series or specials since the television station went on the air in 1954 and WQED-FM 89.3 has been showcasing the Orchestra since it went on the air in 1973.

Bayer Corporation has provided support to WQED-FM 89.3 for several decades including funding construction of the WQED-FM 89.3 Bayer Broadcast Center for the Arts; digital conversion of the station; The Bayer Sunday Arts Magazine; and Symphony Weekend with Mariss Jansons.
