Queen of Hearts at Edgewood Primary School
WQED's Queen of Hearts makes a personal appearance in Kindergarten class.

WQED’S QUEEN OF HEARTS MAKES PERSONAL APPEARANCE AT EDGEWOOD PRIMARY SCHOOL

PITTSBURGH – WQED’s Queen of Hearts – a costume character from WQED’s Stories Start Action program who brings stories to life – will appear at Edgewood Primary School on Maple Avenue in the Woodland Hills School District on Wednesday, April 8 from 10:45 am to 12:15 pm.

WQED’s Stories Start Action is a character education program based on the PBS series Clifford the Big Red Dog and reaches kindergarten classrooms with Clifford’s Ten Big Ideas for Children. Each month focuses on a different value education theme.

This month’s theme is “Be Truthful,” and the Queen of Hearts will share two books with students about what happens when we are not truthful. The workshop will highlight the use of puppets to enhance storytelling with the children directly participating in a “reader theater” style story of “The Three Little Pigs.” After story time, all students will make their own Clifford puppet and practice storytelling with a partner.

The Queen of Hearts spreads WQED’s enthusiasm about literacy throughout the region: at the PBS Kids Backyard play area at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills mall; at area schools during Right to Read Week; at local book stores; the Three Rivers Arts Festival; and the Pittsburgh International Children’s Theatre Festival.

The Queen of Hearts’ appearances in the Woodland Hills School District are made possible through a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).
