Program will tape on Wednesday and air Thursday

PITTSBURGH – In Performance returns to the White House for a very special program, Steve Wonder In Performance at the White House: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize airing Thursday, February 26 at 8pm on WQED-TV.

Singer and song writing legend Stevie Wonder – President Obama’s favorite singer – will be honored. This event is the first-ever musical celebration held at the Obama White House. The President and First Lady will attend, and the President will personally present the Second Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song to Stevie Wonder. Invited audience members will be primarily students and teachers.

The special will be taped on February 25 and will air just one day later on PBS. The concert includes performances by Wonder himself and Tony Bennett, Diana Krall, Martina McBride, Esperanza Spalding, Will.i.am, and the gospel duo Mary Mary, among others.

The Gershwin Prize for Popular Song was created by the Library of Congress to honor artists whose creative output transcends the distinctions between musical styles and idioms, bringing diverse listeners together, and fostering mutual understanding and appreciation.
