An OnQ Special Series

OnQ and WQED Pittsburgh are proud to be partners with Highmark in a series of reports and studio interviews exploring issues that not only affect seniors, but their families - especially the "Baby Boom" generation. Below are descriptions of OnQ's four days of special coverage.

Seniors: A Growing Population - OnQ begins a new series focusing on everyone's goal of living longer and living better. While seniors face the increased likelihood of illnesses such as hypertension and diabetes, the population of people 65 and over is expected to grow from 35 million in 2000 - to 55 million in 2020. OnQ's four days of coverage include special reports on health care, senior advocacy, resources, and advance medical planning.

Seniors: 3 Ways to Live Longer - Medical experts say there are three things senior citizens can do to help them live longer and healthier lives. Seniors should know their medicines, keep up-to-date with their vaccines - and exercise. OnQ talks with a local geriatrician and an orthopaedic surgeon about what older people can do to stay physically fit as they age.
