WQED’s Ready to Learn After School Mentor Program which runs bimonthly for six months. The program uses beloved PBS characters such as Martha Speaks, Peg + Cat, Nature Cat, Wild Kratts, and WordGirl to teach STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) subjects, the language arts, and social emotional development in young learners. The program sends families newsletters and take-home activities to encourage family engagement which is proven to help children succeed in school.

  • Martha Speaks helps children develop vocabulary, literacy, and listening skills.
  • Peg + Cat helps introduce early math skills such as patterns, shapes, measurement, and numbers through fun games and activities.
  • PBS KIDS ScratchJr develops STEAM skills through coding which allows learners to create their own interactive stories and games featuring their favorite characters from PBSKIDS.
  • Design Squad Global allows children to take part in science-based challenges where they construct, invent, use circuits, and more! Scientific exploration and deductive reasoning skills are developed in these projects.
