Musica Mundana, made up of mezzo-soprano Raquel Winnica Young and harpsichordist Justin Wallace, stopped by WQED-FM to chat with Anna Singer about their concerts this weekend featuring guests Nico Chaves, recorders and Erin Ellis, cello. The concerts take place Friday September 13th, 8pm at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church in Highland Park, and Sunday September 15th, 2pm at Old St. Luke's Church in Carnegie.
The 2019 Pittsburgh Jewish Music Festival takes place on Sunday September 15th at Rodef Shalom temple. The Pittsburgh Jewish Music Festival and world-renowned klezmer clarinetist David Krakauer presents a special centenary concert celebrating the Zimro Ensemble's historic global tour in 1919. The Zimro was a sextet of virtuoso musicians who championed early Jewish-themed classical music. Theirs is the story of the immigrant experience and international musical ambassadorship in the early 20th century. The Festival's Director Aron Zelkowicz spoke with WQED-FM's Joanna Li about the concert.

The Hillman Performing Arts Series at Shady Side Academy kicks off the 2019-2020 season with a solo acoustic performance by Grammy Award-winning folk artist Dom Flemons on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 7:30 p.m. The show takes place in the Peter J. Kountz Theater of the Hillman Center for Performing Arts, located on the Shady Side Academy Senior School campus. Dom Flemons is known as “The American Songster” since his repertoire of music covers over 100 years of American folklore, ballads and tunes. He is an expert player on the banjo, fife, guitar, harmonica, jug, percussion, quills and rhythm bones. His 2018 album, Dom Flemons Presents Black Cowboys, peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard bluegrass chart and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album. WQED-FM's Jim Cunningham spoke to Dom over the phone about his upcoming Pittsburgh performance.
