Today, September 17th, is the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchetstra Musician's 4th Annual Day of Music. PSO musicians will be performing free concerts all day long at various locations around the city. The day kicked off with a live performance on the QED Morning Show. Stephanie Tretick, viola; Rhian Kenny, flute; and Lorien Benet Hart, violin performed and talked to Jim Cunningham about their plans for the day.
The Grammy Award-winning Pacifica Quartet and multiple Grammy-winning guitarist Sharon Isbin join forces for an uncommon album of music for strings and guitar from the Baroque to the mid-20th century. Souvenirs of Spain & Italy is the first joint recording by these renowned artists and marks Isbin’s Cedille Records debut. WQED-FM's Jim Cunningham talks to Sharon about the recording.

He tells us about the program with Morton Lauridson’s greatest hit O Magnum Myterium, John Taverner and working with the composer who was a good friend of the Beatles and Princess Diana, being named Second Best Choir in the world, his favorite John Rutter Christmas Carol, listening to the BBC Radio 3 and his favorite beverage while sitting in a coffee shop in New York near 8th avenue talking on a cell phone.
Lang Lang opened the Pittsburgh Symphony season with the Night in Black and White Gala playing the Mozart 24th Concerto and two encores from his Piano Book. He spoke with Jim Cunningham after rehearsal Saturday morning talking about the new sensation of playing with a wedding ring and the ceremony at Versailles last summer, playing Beethoven with Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden, working with the Pittsburgh Symphony and Manfred Honeck, going on tour with the orchestra and some favorite restaurants.

The 2019 Pittsburgh Jewish Music Festival takes place on Sunday September 15th at Rodef Shalom temple. The Pittsburgh Jewish Music Festival and world-renowned klezmer clarinetist David Krakauer presents a special centenary concert celebrating the Zimro Ensemble's historic global tour in 1919. The Zimro was a sextet of virtuoso musicians who championed early Jewish-themed classical music. Theirs is the story of the immigrant experience and international musical ambassadorship in the early 20th century. The Festival's Director Aron Zelkowicz spoke with WQED-FM's Joanna Li about the concert.
