Cherry Rhodes is the first American to win an international organ competition. She has toured the major music capitals of America and Europe with recitals in cathedrals, churches, and concert halls. She gave her first of many performances with Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra at age 17. Her recordings are available on the Delos, Pro Organo, and Raven Recordings labels.
WQED-FM's Jim Cunningham hosts a one hour tribute program to organist Robert Sutherland Lord. The program features some of Lord's radio programs made in the mid-70's, and heard on WQED-FM.
Organist Robert Sutherland Lord recently passed away. He was a teacher at the University of Pittsburgh and was the organist at Heinz Chapel. He also hosted a program on WQED-FM in the 1970s. WQED-FM's Jim Cunningham talked to Robert Sutherland Lord's two daughters, Holly and Wendy, as well as a former student, Steven Anisko, to get some memories of this musical treasure.
