Turner Construction

Turner’s roots in Western Pennsylvania date back to 1908 with work on Forbes Field, which served as the original home of the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Club and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Over the following decades, we built many of the prominent buildings in Pittsburgh, including the National Biscuit Company’s (NABISCO’s) new plant in 1912 and the 64-story US Steel Tower, which is still the tallest building in the city. Turner opened a full-services Pittsburgh office in 1976 and, since then, we have grown to a staff of over 100 who work on projects across Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Turner’s Pittsburgh office works with a diverse mix of public- and private-sector clients and has built or managed the construction of many leading commercial, residential, institutional, industrial, and healthcare facilities. We have cultivated excellent relationships with subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and minority- and woman-owned business enterprises (M/WBEs) in the region and we offer in-house scheduling and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) estimating expertise. We are able to achieve great value for our clients with the combination of our national purchasing power and our ability to engage smaller, local firms in the community. Our portfolio includes a range of projects delivered to clients who value our input and collaboration as well as our experience balancing program, budget, time, and aesthetics on some of the most challenging and sophisticated projects in the region. Our commitment to safe, lean, and sustainable building is prominent on some of our notable recent projects including Mill 19 at Hazelwood Green, 5051 Centre Avenue, and 525 William Penn Place.

Consortium for Public Education

The Consortium for Public Education believes the future depends on a public education system that harnesses all of our region’s strengths and assets, all of its rich resources for learning. It helps K-12 schools tap these community resources to support students in imagining their futures and developing the transferrable skills they’ll need for success in an ever-changing economy. In doing so, the Consortium plays a critical role in developing our region’s workforce at the earliest level. To prepare for post-secondary education and careers, kids need to ask themselves three critical questions: Who am I? Who do I want to be? and How do I get there? The Consortium supports schools in helping their students find answers. It’s a catalyst for community partnerships that help both students and educators learn about southwestern Pennsylvania’s key industries, businesses and career opportunities as well as the region’s opportunities for post-secondary education and training.

Through Project Based Learning experiences created in the Consortium’s Student Powered Solutions program, students get to work on assignments from businesses, tackling real-world problems so that they can see the relevance of their learning and develop the soft skills they’ll need in the workplace. Through programs like The Future Is Mine (TFIM), the Consortium gives students opportunities to explore careers and build leadership skills. The Consortium also creates learning networks like the Future Ready Alliance and programs like Educator in the Workforce to bring together administrators, teachers and/or counselors for professional development opportunities that help create high-quality career learning and guidance in their schools.

Aviation Education: Your Ticket to A Rewarding Career

With a hands-on education focused on building strong technical foundations, students are sought out for both aviation and non-aviation related positions upon graduation. PIA’s 90 years of industry expertise has led to strong partnerships with aviation and non-aviation organizations, assisting maintenance and electronics students with career opportunities after graduation.

University of Pittsburgh Titusville

The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville’s Education and Training Hub launched in August of 2020 as a part of the University of Pittsburgh’s commitment to workforce development in northwestern Pennsylvania. The campus’ current initiatives include a two-year Associate of Science in Nursing degree. Soon the hub will add certifications in both manufacturing and medical assistant training thanks to the contributions of its partners, the Manchester Bidwell Corp. and Pitt’s Swanson School of Engineering’s Manufacturing Assistance Center.

Another major contributor to the hub’s partnership, the Northern Pennsylvania Regional College, will offer general education classes required for Pitt-Titusville’s pre-nursing students. Those will be offered at NPRC classroom locations, including on-site at the Titusville campus. Pre-nursing students who satisfactorily complete the General Education Certificate with NPRC and meet all eligibility requirements will qualify for Pitt-Titusville’s nursing program and may continue in their pursuit of becoming a registered nurse.

“Our Education and Training Hub is a transformational project that will reduce the effects of structural poverty in northwestern Pennsylvania by enhancing the business ecosystem,” said Dr. Catherine Koverola, president of Pitt-Titusville. “The hub will provide training, equipping the region’s residents with critical skills and enabling them to meet workforce needs.” Pitt-Titusville’s two-year Associate Degree in Nursing program continues to accept applicants for the 2021-22 school year and continues with an unbroken record of a 100% hiring rate for recent graduates. It was ranked 7th in the state by the website RN Careers. The Pitt-quality education has been regarded by many regional employers as chief among their considerations when interviewing candidates. Pitt-Titusville remains determined to establish its Education and Training Hub as the leader in workforce development for the region.

We accomplish this with optimized OEM fluid conditioning tools, and we deliver the solution and services that MRO customers require to meet their operational performance goals. National Electrical Contractors Association, Western PA Chapter (NECA)

The Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) is the association of qualified, reliable, and experienced union electrical contractors working in Western PA.

Whether high-voltage power transmission or low-voltage building automation, electrical contractors ensure these systems work in a safe, effective, and environmentally-sound manner. NECA contractors build everything from your neighborhood restaurants to skyscrapers, stadiums, and nuclear power plants. They work in hospitals, universities, industrial facilities, and essentially anywhere that needs electricity.

NECA contractors employ the most highly-trained and skilled Journeyman Electricians from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) through a labor-management agreement that ensures tradesmen and women are afforded family-sustaining wages & benefits, safe working conditions, and the most advanced apprenticeship training available.

The NECA-IBEW Apprenticeship Program is a five-year paid apprenticeship program that combines on-the-job training and classroom instruction. Apprentices are paid an hourly wage and receive union benefits starting immediately, with annual pay raises aligned with progression through the program. The NECA-IBEW team covers all tuition costs, so students are not responsible for financing their education.

SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings

Protective coatings are everywhere. They protect the planes, trains and automobiles we use. They help to keep iconic bridges standing, drinking water clean, and homes supplied with gas. They protect ships on the oceans and barges on the rivers. They help militaries defend countries. They provide a thin layer between a pristine landscape and an environmental disaster.

Industries look to SSPC for training and guidance on how protective coatings are used, from choosing the right coating for the job to successfully preparing the surface and applying the coating, often in challenging environments.

The SSPC family includes a worldwide network of protective coatings experts who care deeply about what they do: Craftworkers like blasters and painters, as well as corporate executives, engineers, inspectors and lab technicians. The SSPC community represents a broad spectrum of the workforce with a diverse set of skills who value SSPC because we provide them with a platform to engage each other, advance the industry and propel their careers.

Everything we do is designed to benefit the users and providers of protective coatings products and services. From globally recognized industry standards and technical publications to professional certification programs, our mission is: “To inspire learning, advance knowledge, and elevate performance in the industry through training, certification, and education of the workforce, communication of advances in technology, and promotion of the use of protective coatings.”
